Each Tuesday night from the first week of October through the last week of April, we open our doors at 7:00 p.m. to shelter the homeless in McHenry County. Volunteers set foam mats on the floor, prepare meals, and safe sleeping arrangements for up to 65 clients until 7 a.m.
on Wednesday morning. The men, women and
children who come to our shelter arrive by automobile, on foot, or by public transportation.
Volunteers provide a hot dinner and breakfast and are also prepare a sack lunch for the following day. The clients make their "beds" with linens which we provide and strip the bed the following morning. Clients generally watch a movie or read books in the time they have between dinner and "lights out". On Wednesday morning volunteers wash linens and blankets, clean and store all the mats and prepare for the following week's needs.
